Yellow Calcite Bracelet
A yellow calcite bracelet and a Montreal studio
The scene below is a story, not a review from a buyer.
Pigment before coffee
Lucie mixed a yellow that was almost butter and almost pollen, then wiped her thumb on a rag in a Montreal studio that smelled of linseed. She had been painting the same corner of a canvas for three days. On the sill sat a row of mineral samples a friend had labelled in pencil, including a chalky piece of yellow calcite. Calcite is softer than quartz and fizzes if you are unkind enough to test it with acid. Lucie was not going to test it. She liked that the colour was a stone and not a tube.
What the bracelet is
PJ Teera Gems lists an AAA yellow calcite bracelet on a stretch cord, beads about 8 to 12mm, sold from India. AAA is the shop's grade. Calcite in this colour is warm and slightly translucent at the edges when the beads are well polished. It is not as hard as the citrine bracelet in the same shop, so it is a different object even though both are yellow. The listing is jewellery for a wrist. It will not hand you confidence, willpower, or a better painting. Those are the painter's. The beads are the beads, posted from India to people in the US, the UK, Canada, and Australia.
Because calcite marks, the care is part of owning it. That is worth knowing before you order, not after the first scratch.
How people wear it
Wear it on days when your wrist will not meet a door frame, a barbell, or a stack of harder bracelets. Take it off to wash brushes or dishes. Acids, including vinegar on the hands, are a bad idea near calcite. Store it in a soft pouch, alone. Stretch cord still needs replacing when it frays. If you put the bracelet on as a small start to studio time, that ritual is yours. It does not live inside the mineral. A lot of good habits are like that, and they survive the truth.
The product link
The page shows free shipping to the US and the UK and a modest charge for many other countries. International delivery is often about 7 to 12 days with tracking. Read the size range on the live listing.
Calcite is the mineral of limestone and marble, familiar and easy to scar. A yellow bead of it is a bit like a good pastel stick: beautiful, and not for the floor of a bus. Wear the bracelet to the studio and take it off when the session gets physical. If a bead clouds, a jeweller can sometimes repolish calcite, and sometimes cannot. Know that before you stack it against a quartz bracelet from the same order.
